DWI Driver Crashes into nail salon and leaves people injured

As CBS has reported, at least four people lost their lives and nine others were injured when a minivan crashed through the front of a nail salon in Deer Park, Suffolk County, on Friday June 28th afternoon, officials reported.

The devastating incident occurred at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Avenue around 4:42 p.m., leaving a gaping hole in the building after the vehicle rammed all the way through.

Dominic Albanese, third assistant chief for the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department, described a chaotic scene where emergency responders worked desperately to extricate trapped individuals. Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while nine others were rushed to hospitals, one by helicopter.

Eyewitness Eric Perez recounted hearing the horrifying crash, initially mistaking it for breaking glass until the arrival of law enforcement vehicles signaled a serious incident unfolding.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the crash was intentional or if children were among those inside during the incident. The driver, who was also hospitalized, faces charges related to driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Rescue efforts were extensive, involving approximately 150 firefighters and emergency personnel. The vehicle remained embedded deeply within the salon as investigators worked to determine the cause of this tragic event
