As reported by The New York Post, a tragic incident occurred in Queens, where a 5-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by an SUV. The accident happened near Poppenhusen Playground in College Point. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.

The fatal accident took place on May 18th around 6:06 pm on 124th Street near 20th Avenue. According to police, the young boy ran into the street when he was hit by a 2008 Honda CRV traveling southbound. Witnesses described the harrowing scene, with one witness, identified only as Rob, recounting, "I just saw the little kid under the car. He was blue. He was bleeding."

The child suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The boy had apparently come from the nearby Poppenhusen Playground and was not accompanied by a parent at the time of the incident.

The 25-year-old driver of the Honda CRV remained at the scene following the collision. Police have not made any arrests and have not disclosed whether speeding was a factor in the accident. The identity of the child has not been released as the investigation continues.

This tragic event underscores the importance of road safety, particularly in areas frequented by children. The community is left in mourning as they await further details from the ongoing investigation.
