TRAGIC SUNDAY: MULTIPLE FATAL CRASHES SHAKE QUEENS

Multiple crashes in Queens on Sunday May 19th resulted in several fatalities. A Volkswagen hit a moped, killing both passengers, and fled the scene. Later, a Mercedes sedan driven by 22-year-old Manuel Torres overturned on the Grand Central Parkway, killing Torres and injuring two others.

Multi-car collision on Grand Central Parkway leaves 3 dead

As Pix11 has reported, on May 19th Queens experienced a tragic Sunday with multiple unrelated crashes resulting in several fatalities. The incidents included a hit-and-run involving a moped and a chain-reaction collision. 

A Volkswagen traveling westbound on 57th Avenue near 80th Street collided head-on with a moped traveling eastbound. 

The crash, which occurred around 8:20 a.m., killed both passengers on the moped. The men, in their 20s or 30s, were tragically pronounced dead—one at the scene and the other at the hospital. After the collision, the Volkswagen driver fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of devastation and two unoccupied parked cars that were also hit.

In another incident, around 7 a.m., a Mercedes sedan overturned on the Grand Central Parkway near Parsons Boulevard. 

The car, driven by 22-year-old Manuel Torres, crashed into two other eastbound vehicles before flipping and hitting a fourth vehicle. Torres, a resident of Corona, was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced dead. 

Two other individuals involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is looking into the details of this tragic event.

These incidents underscore the perils faced by pedestrians and drivers alike on Queens roads. The NYPD is conducting investigations to determine the circumstances and any potential liabilities involved in these crashes.
