Fatal Crash Kills Driver on Southern State Parkway in Islip

On Monday, March 4th, 2024, at approximately 2:47 p.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on the eastbound Southern State Parkway near exit 40S in Islip. The deceased individual, identified as Stephanie T. Malone, aged 28 and a resident of Ronkonkoma, NY, was the sole occupant of her 2013 Nissan Altima, as reported by the New York State Police.

As News12 has reported, Ms. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene, following the crash. The incident resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway at exit 39 and the left lane of the westbound side, as stated by authorities.

The accident, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m., led to a thorough investigation that lasted several hours. Although details regarding the number of vehicles involved remain unclear, it was confirmed that no other injuries were reported.

Following the incident, identification of the victim was officially released by the New York State Police on Wednesday, March 6, confirming Ms. Malone's identity. The closure of both eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway and the westbound left lane persisted during the investigation period.
