In a tragic incident on May 28th’s evening, a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. when a black Toyota Rav4 clipped a blue Jeep SUV, causing a deadly chain reaction.
As the New York Post described, the police reported that the 30-year-old woman was crossing Washington Avenue at East 167th Street when the black Toyota Rav4 struck the rear bumper of the blue Jeep SUV.
This collision caused the Jeep to lose control and veer towards the woman. In a horrifying moment caught on camera, the woman noticed the Jeep heading her way and paused in the middle of the crosswalk, taking a step back. Unfortunately, it was too late to avoid the impact.
The Jeep hit the woman, throwing her into a parked car before coming to a stop. The driver of the Jeep and two passengers immediately exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving the woman critically injured. The driver of the Toyota Rav4 remained at the scene and has not been charged.
Nearby residents who witnessed the incident expressed their shock and dismay. They recognized the Jeep's driver as a local and urged him to turn himself in to the authorities.
Emergency responders rushed the injured woman to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released.
